چکیده

The dependence of our society on complex networks constantly grows with the worldwide increase in urbanization and globalization. As a result there is an increasing demand for understanding the behaviour of these networks. In particular, the probabilities of extreme events (rareoccurrence, high-impact) must be accurately estimated. In this work, a new Markov chain Monte Carlo method for efficient estimation of small probabilities of rare events in complex networks is presented.

Estimation of Rare Event Statistics in Data

The estimation of the statistics of rare events is inherently costly, simply because of their rarity. This paper describes some recently developed techniques for the efficient simulation of rare events in telecommunications networks. The work described is split into three broad themes: the optimal simulation of buffer overflows in queueing networks, reverse-time modeling of random processes and...

Reliability estimation of Iran's power network

Today, the electricity power system is the most complicated engineering system has ever been made. The integrated power generating stations with power transmission lines has created a network, called complex power network. The reliability estimation of such complex power networks is a very challenging problem, as one cannot find any immediate solution methods in current literature. In this pape...

Optimally Efficient Estimation of the Statistics of Rare Events in Queueing Networks

Because of their rarity, the estimation of the statistics of buffer overflows in networks of queues by direct simulation is very costly. An asymptotically optimal (as the overflow recurrence time becomes large) scheme has been proposed by others, using importance sampling. This paper addresses two aspects of this scheme. First, in the existing approach, a numerical minimization is required to g...

Distributed Incremental Least Mean-Square for Parameter Estimation using Heterogeneous Adaptive Networks in Unreliable Measurements

Adaptive networks include a set of nodes with adaptation and learning abilities for modeling various types of self-organized and complex activities encountered in the real world. This paper presents the effect of heterogeneously distributed incremental LMS algorithm with ideal links on the quality of unknown parameter estimation. In heterogeneous adaptive networks, a fraction of the nodes, defi...

Statistical Monitoring of Rare Events in Healthcare

There are miscellaneous quality characteristics in healthcare which are interested to be monitored. However, monitoring each characteristic needs a special statistical method. There are some characteristics with very small incidence rates that it’s usually considered not to be necessary to monitoring them, since their incidence rates are so small that p and np charts are not able to monitor t...
